UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

Just thought I would share what an insightful experience I had today with y’all! I actually had a neighbor come and place a type-written letter in my door stating that Barack Obama was a racist and a muslim. This neighbor, who I actually called a friend until this “incident” just told me that "if that n word (he actually used the word) got elected he would personally go to Washington and assassinate him"... so if my beliefs on my blog or anywhere else seem particularly passionate towards Obama please understand that THIS behavior is what I deal with every single day in WAY Upper East TN for having a bumper sticker on my car.

Its very difficult to find a single democrat in the bright red area of TN I was born and raised in, or at least one that is willing to come out of hiding. I was Vice President of the UT Young Republicans & if you would have asked me why I would have been able to spout off a million reasons, ALL of which were my parent's reasons. In Grad School for Social Work also at UT I began interning at a Women's Reproductive Clinic which prompted me to do my research and wouldn't you know it, I was about as democrat as they come! This, according to my parents, was due to "brainwashing" and I love my parents dearly but I obviously disagree. Now I am back in Johnson City- the reddest of the red places in this state. This state that voted NOT for Bob Corker, but against Harold Ford, Jr. because he was black... yes people are actually proud to say they did that around here. Not all people of course & I love my hometown for many reasons though politics certainly DOESN’T make the list.

This was not a pamphlet, nor a flyer, but an actual typed letter addressed to me, and signed by my neighbor. When I read it and became outraged I went up to his apartment, had a heated exchange in which he uttered his racist comments, told me to "go to Obama's website" where I would find the "proof" of Obama's racism against White people and his hidden Muslim agenda (both extremely laughable remarks) and out of anger I just threw his letter back into his apartment and walked away with him still talking because I did not want to cry in front of him over his pathetic attack on me and my bumper sticker. I now wish I still had it so I could tell you what else it said and report it to somebody. I really would LOVE to report this statement about assassination to the authorities as well, but it was something he said to me with nobody else around and would be extremely difficult to prove. If I hadn't thrown the letter back into this man's apartment I might have a leg to stand on, but I reacted out of sheer anger and frustration. I certainly don't expect this to be the last time I am ridiculed for being a democrat AND voting for a Black man for the TN Senate, as well as backing a Black Presidential Candidate. I am also quite sure that Mr. Obama himself probably gets several of these letters and remarks made to him as well, and much more frequently. It’s just disgusting.

So, I just thought I would share this lovely information with you all today. It was a super-fun experience. At least I know to keep the evidence next time!! And FYI… if anyone else out there reading this blog overhears or just plain hears a racist and potentially dangerous comment about Barack Obama in the next several months, or anytime really, you can and should actually report it to his Headquarters at 1 (866) 675-2008.
